So Far From Dixie
Taylor Trade Publishing, 2003
Winner of the 2004 American Graphic Design Award, presented by Graphic Design USA. To achieve this distressed title type I printed out historic Civil War era fonts, scratched up the paper, scanned the pages in and combined them in Photoshop.

Cowboy Princess
Taylor Trade Publishing, 2003
Winner of the 2004 American Graphic Design Award, presented by Graphic Design USA. This design plays up the kitchy cowboy style of the 1950s while keeping a contempory look.

George Washington Remembers
Rowman and Littlefield, 2003
This oversized book was the 2nd place winner in The Washington Book Publishers Book Design and Effectiveness Awards, 2004 Illustrated cover design catagory. The book features a full-size facsimile of George Washington's French and Indian War journal. I incorporated one of these page on the front cover. I altered his script to be light grey on black. This was done to create a mood and ensure that the President's handwriting acted only as a background element.
For the cover portrait we wanted a painting of a young Washington. This painting by Charles Wilson Peale was an excellent find by the editor. For the main title I choose, Old Glory, a colonial-looking font appropriate to the time period.
